Our Process

CLIENT ARTWORK, IDEAS, & BUDGET

We first discuss and consult with clients about their ideas and budget for custom designed lapel pins. When Clients supply camera ready art there is no charge. But without artwork, there is an art charge that is determined by the clarity of the design presented.

METHODS AND METALS

We determine clients' choice of metal and method of production based on the customers artwork or rough sketch, image, and budget. We choose a base metal for the pins to fit the budget and avoid metals that can significantly increase the price. The brass and iron are the common chosen metals, followed by aluminum, zinc, stainless steel, and semi-precious metals such as sterling, fine silver, and gold filled. For higher quality jewelry pins, we offer 10K and 14Kt gold.

DIMENSIONS AND SIZES

Clients would also need to provide artwork to determine if their custom designed lapel pins should be made into a two dimensional or three dimensional cast. 3-dimensional pins are sculptured model designs with multiple levels. 2-dimensional pins are between two and three levels but flat without modeling. 3-dimensional pins have higher preparation charges than 2-dimensional pins.

COLORS

We establish the amount of printed colors for enameling or printing after the method of production is determined. Enameling can be soft epoxy or hard stoned enamel. Printed colors are silk screened on top of the enamel or printed on the pin through digital printing, four color process printing, or silk screening.

PLATING AND SANDBLASTING

The plating options are based on the choices of metals, enameling or printing, colors, and the design layout. The design lay out helps to determine the plating options to bring out the detail and color contrast. Brass electroplating and nickel electroplating are the least expensive while silver plating and gold plating are the most expensive. Costs vary, but to acquire the right contrast of color, we can also antique or sandblast the background and polish the high point of the pins.

FINDINGS AND PACKAGING OPTIONS

We offer standard nail and butterfly military brass clutch back, the rounded or flat head spring loaded plated clutch back, bar pin, joint and catch, or magnet. Finding options vary in price and determined by the clients budget.

PACKAGING

In regards to packaging, we poly-bag most custom designed lapel pins. For those with bigger budgets, we make available plastic boxes with foam or velour inserts, and velour jewelry boxes.

PREPARATION

Preparation charges for die or mold apply regardless of artwork. However, if quantity orders are over 5000 or 10,000 pieces, then prep charges are waived. Pre-production samples have a sample charges ranging from $20.00 to $35.00. With semi-precious or precious metal pins, higher sample charges apply.

QUOTE

After the design requirements are completed, we provide the quote based on quantities. Minimum quantities and price breaks vary based on the manufacturing types.

DELIVERY

At the time of the quote specific delivery date requirements are established such as the dates for the pre-production samples and finished pins.
